How Many Closet Racists Still Remain in PAP, YPAP?
Young PAP member quits over offensive remarks on Facebook - Channel NewsAsia
A Young People's Action Party (YP) member who posted 'insensitive' remarks - in his own words - on his Facebook page has resigned, following an online furore.
http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/1166078/1/.html
Veteran PAP Member of Parliament Charles Chong told TODAY that it would be "difficult" to vet those joining YP or PAP."They may profess to have the same ideology as the party and have a clean record, but even with psychometric tests, there is a small possibility of mistakes or missteps," said Mr Chong.
My response:
The YPAP, like the PAP itelf, prides itself in its stringent recruitment criteria to catch the 'best of the crop'. What those criteria are are a closely guarded secret and we must take their word that they are stringent indeed.
Jason Neo must have passed muster to be accepted as a YPAP member, and we must also accept that he is the creme de la creme that the YPAP could catch.
Most headhunters and HR depts, on the other hand, tend to screen the FB walls of potential candidates to get a bettedr profile. Many a promising candidate have lost their dream jobs through indiscretions of one kind or another posted on their FB walls.
So, how come the PAP, despite their highly-vaunted selection criteria, missed out on this simple, low-cost(free) and almsot standard screening process already employed by thousands of corporations around the world? They could have easily caught Jason Neo's racist posting anytime between February (when he allegedly posted it) and June (when he was accepted).
How many other closet racists are still there in the YPAP and the PAP because of this simple oversight?

Regretfully, I must now answer my own question
Q: How many other closet racists are still there in the YPAP and the PAP because of this simple oversight?
A: NONE. Following YPAP's directive that its members "constantly review one’s public remarks and postings", racist and bigoted YPAP members must be scrambling now to clean up their FB walls of any incriminating evicence.
The outcome is ALL YPAP members will be sparkling clean, and YPAP will be totally free of any bigots and racists.
You can come out of the closet now...
FACTA NON VERBA - Action, Not Words
Assalamualaikum.
This Jason Neo incident just goes to prove that our education system has failed to produce serious, critical thinking. Obviously some people are just swallowing post-9/11 Western propaganda regarding Islam - hook, line and sinker.
Our education system ought to teach the young to celebrate our diversity. But in an authoritarian society where conformity is the norm - it becomes difficult to accept diversity. Indeed this is precisely why we have not been able to incubate successful technopreneurs. To be a scientist or technopreneur - is to defy the ordinary. To push the boundaries. To question authority. And so on. That is the spirit of Science and Entrepreneurship. But we can never hope to nurture such a spirit in an environment of authoritarian conformity.
Secondly - we are all to blame for this incident. When the system began to fail many years ago - we kept quiet and left it to the sycophants to praise what was obviously a failing system. Our silence made us complicit in this.
The way forward is to revamp our education system to include critical thinking and a celebration of our diversity. Indeed - diversity is our strength and NOT our weakness.
